Birchington Medical Centre

Clinics

Antenatal Clinic
These are held on Thursdays and patients will be seen by the midwife by appointment.

Baby Clinic
The baby clinics are run by Dr Davis on Thursdays at 9.00am for child development checks and immunisations. The clinic also allows an opportunity to discuss other problems, eg sleeping, feeding and child health worries, with the doctor or health visitor.

Asthma Clinic
This is run by practice nurse Carol in conjunction with the doctors, by appointment only.

Diabetic Clinic
This is run by practice nurse Mandy in conjunction with Dr Martin, by appointment only.

Family Planning
Contraceptive care is provided by all the doctors during surgery hours.

Well Woman Clinic
This clinic is run by Dr Martin and Nurse Jackie for smears, postnatal checks and discussion for women's health issues.

Anticoagulation Clinic
This clinic for patients on warfarin anticoagulation therapy is run by Dr Amer Ghazi, Nurse Karen Spencer and healthcare assistant Karen Williams. The clinic is run on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings and is by appointment only.

Non-NHS Examinations
The doctors are happy to carry out medicals, eg insurance and driving licence, by appointment outside surgery hours. Telephone the surgery for an appointment. Please ask at reception for the charges for these services.

Counselling
Counselling is available at the surgery by appointment. Please ask your doctor to refer you and an appointment will be made for you.

Patients Over 75 Years
If you are aged 75 years or over, you should be seen annually either by your doctor, the practice nurse, district nurse or health visitor. This can be arranged at the surgery or, if that is not possible, a home visit will be arranged.

Travel Immunisations/Vaccinations
Please make an appointment at least six weeks in advance of your holiday to ensure adequate cover. A charge will be made for certain immunisations and vaccinations which are not covered by the NHS. A list of these charges is held at reception.

Flu Vaccination
An influenza vaccination is particularly recommended for patients with heart, lung or kidney disease, diabetes and residents of nursing and rest homes.

Please contact the reception staff in October for details of the vaccination dates and to make an appointment. If you are unable to attend the surgery, a home visit will be arranged to undertake this facility.

Yellow Fever Vaccinations
Birchington Surgery is now an authorised Yellow Fever vaccination centre.

Stop Smoking
Nurse Carol is here to give you advice on how to quit and we can arrange one to one counselling at the local pharmacy.
